Reverend Lorraine Ashdown - 'May you go with the love of God wrapped around you like a cloak: with the companionship and guidance of our teacher Jesus by your side and with the power and fire of the Holy Spirit to empower your journey...'
Lorraine is a long time Bowen Islander and brings an authentic love of the United Church and a desire to create community and sense of belonging. She is also a musician and a photographer. She has a love for Mary Oliver pooems and refers to herself as a “Prairie Girl” even though she left aher home town of Winnipeg fifteen years ago. She graduated from Vancouver School of Theology with a Masters of Arts in Public and Pastoral Leadership and a diploma in Indigenous and Inter-religious Studies. Bowen Island is where her heart calls home. 'Music is how we laugh, cry, and love and be with God together.'
Born and raised in Western Canada, Lynn brings a wry sense of humour, an enthusiasm for singing and a passion for community. She is also the director of Penrhyn Academy of Singing on Bowen Island and believes in the power of music in our lives.
Lynn brings our 'drop-in' Bowen Island United Church's choir together every Sunday at 9:30 am for a quick practice before service. Coffee is always on, the church is always warm, and you are always welcome. The only thing you need to bring is a smile and a willingness to sing.
Helen (left) is 'home' for us here at the Little Red Church, having been on Bowen for many years. She is a long time member of LRC, and knows our stories and is the gentle voice and tender heart for our children.
Each Sunday she follows the fun and inviting United Church curriculum for kids and together they make crafts, play music and discover the love and story of Jesus together. Helen is a treasure at our church. You're going to love her as much as we do.
Christina grew up in the United Church of Canada and has a genuine spark for Youth Ministry and a commitment to making church accessible, fun, stress free and fulfilling for families. That's a tall order in today's busy world, and so needed.
Our Youth Group meets on most Saturday nights from 7:15-9:15pm and all are welcome. This group is suitable for young adults from grade 7 to 12.
