Bowen Island United Church
Sarah Jane Milroy has kindly offered us her outdoor deck as a meeting place. She is at 1457 Woods Road.
We will gather, have a time of sharing and then begin to pray. Music, silence, poetry and contemplation will all be incorporated into our time together.
If you are interested in joining our circle to receive and offer prayer, contact Lorraine at (778) 688-2061.
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”
Colossians — 4:2
These past few months have been financially challenging for many, including churches, and we do appreciate the support. It means we can continue to be a vital presence here on Bowen...
Our Church has been working hard to be flexible and adjust where we can during the pandemic; we were pleased to still be able to offer versions of annual events like the Strawberry Tea and Fall Supper. Our dedicated volunteers have also made sure that the food bank has stayed open, safe and well stocked.
We were very disappointed not to be able to gather this year for Christmas Eve worship, surrounded by the beautiful Christmas light display. Attending this service is a lovely tradition for so many people. We try to remember that this is not forever, it’s just for now.
Because we can’t worship in-person right now, Reverend Lorraine Ashdown has been recording a weekly service. If you’d like to check it out on youtube, search “Bowen Island United Church.” We have a facebook page, too. Our website is also a great source of information if you’ve ever been curious about the past and present of our church. The site is www.biuc.ca
Bowen Island United Church relies heavily on the financial generosity of its congregation as well as local community to help keep the doors open, the lights on and continue to function as a faith community. As we move further in to 2021, we welcome any contributions you can afford. If you’re able to help us you can e-transfer Board Treasurer, Sheila McCall at msmccall@telus.net (be sure to include your address in the message for a tax receipt). You may also send a cheque, payable to Bowen Island United Church, to BIUC Treasurer, c/o 264 Smugglers Cove Road, V0N 1G1. Donations over $25 will be issued a tax receipt.
Kind regards,
Mary Ann Zakreski
