We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ because by doing so, we believe we maintain a focus on justice, reconciliation, forgiveness, compassion and love. We believe that if we follow the path that Jesus shows us, we can contribute to the healing of the world and that lives may be transformed.

Prayer Circle

Prayer Circle
For centuries, Christians and people of all faith traditions, have gathered together to pray for the world and for one another. Today is no different. With many in our community in need and many in the world who are suffering, Bowen Island United Church is beginning a Prayer Circle starting Wednesday, June 2 at 7:15 and meeting the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Sarah Jane Milroy has kindly offered us her outdoor deck as a meeting place. She is at 1457 Woods Road.

We will gather, have a time of sharing and then begin to pray. Music, silence, poetry and contemplation will all be incorporated into our time together.

If you are interested in joining our circle to receive and offer prayer, contact Lorraine at (778) 688-2061.

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”

Message from the Board Chair

December 6, 2022

Welcome to Bowen Island United Church. We want you to know that all people are invited to join our faith community. Rev. Lorraine Ashdown and Minister of Music, Lynn Williams, continue to inspire us with a blend of traditional weekly services and newer offerings such as Vespers, Evensong and outdoor Wild Church. Perhaps you’d like to try participating in one or all of these worship styles, or maybe you already know where you’re comfortable.

As Chair of the Board, I see firsthand how our Minister, Board and Congregation work together to ensure our faith community functions smoothly. If you look around you’ll see people helping out in any way they are able, working hard to get the job done. I have a running joke that we are not the biggest congregation, but we certainly have the highest quality members!

We would love to meet you in person. Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself to Rev. Ashdown, or stay for coffee after Sunday worship to chat with a Board member or fellow congregant.

Regards,
Mary Ann Zakreski
